What is it?!
Check out our Etymology page, to learn where the word "SkeptiCamp" came from.

SkeptiCamp is like a science conference, except that the content is provided by the attendees themselves! Some prefer to call it an "unconference" for that reason.

It is based on a successful model of gatherings referred to as "BarCamp", which have primarily focused on technology. (It has nothing to do with bars. The name has its own rich history, too long to reiterate, here). Our conference will focus on topics related to science, critical thinking, and other notions that appeal to a skeptical crowd.

Conventional conferences tend to follow a standard pattern of linear presentation, followed by Q&A. We hope the "presentations" made at SkeptiCamp NYC are more like lively discussions, than straight seminars. Presenters could welcome the bombardment of questions, after their initial introduction to the topic is made. (Though, some may choose to err on the side of convention.) Topics that interact with the audience are encouraged. (Moderators will help make sure the topic does not drift too far from the scope the original presenter had in mind.)

SkeptiCamp is intended for adults, though young adults can also join us, if they'd like.

Anyone who can be in the New York City area, at the given date and time is invited to join and... perhaps even present something for discussion!
