Disinformation and the Truth Apocalypse. How to Save Social Media |
| Session Description: |
According to numerous researchers, we are living in an era of "truth decay" in which public knowledge has become subjective, emotional, and irrational. Epistemic organizations that once promoted truth, like universities and journalistic-based news organizations, have fallen in favor of crowd sourced knowledge freely available online. In this talk I will discuss the problems with social media and how to rectify them. I will sketch out how a social media platform should operate in a way that promotes evidence based information reasoned debate and rational inquiry.
